FattyFund
The Shwan “Fatty” Alkhatib Memorial Fund or “FattyFund” began raising funds after Shwan’s passing in order to build a lasting tribute to Shwan. In the midst of grieving Shwan, we knew that we needed to incorporate Shwan’s incredible dedication to Kansas State, Shwan’s passion for learning, and Shwan’s belief in the mission of Kansas State as a land-grant institution.
We eventually found a fitting tribute to Shwan. As part of the Hale Library renovation, a brand new collaboration room on the first floor was named for Shwan! The Hale Library renovation presented an opportunity to create a place that both honors the memory of Shwan and provides current Kansas State University students with a room that will enhance their learning. The room is a perfect location for students to study, research, collaborate and learn. This room will make an impact and be dedicated to Shwan’s memory for generations of K-Staters to come.
Again, we are so happy that we were able to make this arrangement with K-State and the Library. For those of us who knew Shwan, Hale Library was his home away from home. The place that he felt most comfortable on campus and the place he spent hours studying. Shwan loved the library and it was a special place for him during his time at Kansas State.
The naming rights to the room have been procured with a donation of $100,000, which we culminated raising at FattyFest 2019, with the help of Shwan's parents matching donations from that event.
While the fundraising and campus tribute is completed, we will continue to celebrate Shwan at annual FattyFests!

The Alkhatib family has previously dedicated a room in memorial of their sons Shwan and Weesam, K-State Engineering Alumni who both passed away in 2012.
Fattyfest
FattyFest is an annual charity event that includes a silent auction, a trivia competition, and a celebration of all things K-State in the heart of Aggieville to benefit the Shwan “Fatty” Alkhatib Memorial Fund.
